A really great way to bring friends and family together to enjoy the great outdoors is to host a backyard barbeque party. A barbecue party is actually quite easy and relatively inexpensive to host, making it a great choice for many people. You don't need too much planning in advance, making this type of party one you can throw together in a relatively impromptu fashion, which is nice for when you are feeling spontaneous.

In order to prepare for a barbecue party, you should first decide on a date and time to host it. Draw up a list of whom you will invite. Once you have a head count of attendees, you can start to menu plan. This will allow you to know how much food you will need to buy.

Typically, a barbecue party centers around at least one cut of meat being cooked on the grill. Many party hosts opt to entertain their guests with several grilled meat options and even grilled veggies too. It is not unheard of to grill a pizza, so the possibilities are limited only by your imagination.

Plan to serve several side dishes to accompany the grilled entrees. Salads are always popular dishes including coleslaw, potato salads, tossed salads, pasta salads, just to name a few. Select your sides depending on what you choose to serve as your entree, to best compliment the meal. Baked beans, corn, and watermelon are popular served up alongside barbecue too.

Don't forget dessert. As barbecue backyard parties are often in the summer months, fresh fruit desserts such as strawberry shortcake or peach cobbler with ice cream are often big hits.  A selection of popsicle treats is popular among children and adults alike.

When getting ready for your party be sure to check out seating arrangements and check to see that you have enough tables to serve your guests upon. Check to see that you have enough seating for all your guests to sit comfortably. Now is a good time to think about buying or replacing patio cushions. If you have recently purchased patio cushions, be sure to clean them with warm water and detergent. Allow them to air dry in the sun when finished washing. Think about table cloths that tie in to the patio cushions creating a beautiful look. Purchase napkins, plates, and silverware that tie in to the fabric of your patio cushions and tablecloths.

For decorations, think about fresh flowers cut from your yard. Usually there is something blooming when people hosts backyard barbecue parties. Be sure to arm yourself with a variety of beverages to suit everyone's tastes ranging from bottled water and juice boxes to beer and wine, and don't forget the soda pop. Stock up on plenty of ice and do a quick cleanup of the yard and house in preparation.

Make sure your grill is in good working order and has plenty of propane or charcoal and lighter fluid. Music is always welcome and helps to keep a party fun and light spirited.

A backyard party is a lot of fun. If you follow these tips, your party is sure to be a hit. And it will only be a matter of time before you are ready to host your next one.
